Time stood still as Malachi realized that he was no longer in the real world. He saw the man raise his arm and turn his hand to throw the fireball at him. He heard both the stick creature and the griffin behind him yell, and lunge for him.
So began Malachi's first night on the Continent – a world full of stick and mud creatures, griffins, centaurs, dwarves, gnome-like creatures, vampires and shape-shifters. The young boy soon finds out why he has awoken in a new world ruled by Keepers, corrupted men and women trained to harness the Secrets. In doing so, he finds out that he is of the race of Fioren, a group of people who are born with the knowledge of all the Secrets. With the help of the creatures of the Continent and few friends from his world, he must not only fight to rescue the Continent from Erogant and his legion of Keepers, but he must also rescue its citizens from complacency.
Join Malachi on his journey to discover within himself the power to lead and the desire to serve Adonai in Marcus Lawson's first installment of The Secrets of the Continent trilogy called Shaman's Spark.

While fantasy is not my favorite genre, I really enjoyed this novel. The plot drew me in almost immediately and maintained my interest throughout. I enjoyed the way Lawson incorporated Christianity into the storyline - it never seemed forced as in some Christian fiction. I would recommend this novel to anyone!Product details

Shaman Spark The Secrets of the Continent Trilogy Book 1 edition by Marcus Lawson Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
I've never been a fan of the Fantasy genre but this book has given me reason to reconsider. It's been a while since I read it but the characters remain fresh in my mind.
When I finished it I gave my copy to a teenaged friend of mine. She LOVED it.
Once I got into the Christian fiction & fantasy world & understood the characters(this isn't my normal type of reading material), I was drawn to the writing. The author did a fantastic job, bringing the characters into the world of christian fiction. It was a case of wanting to see what would happen next. Not wanting to put the book down! To see who would do what, where the next area of the continent was, & what would take place there. I would strongly recommend this book. See the world of Christian Fiction unfold through the characters & through the eyes of this inspiring author!
I was immediately drawn into this fantastic world, created by author, Marcus Lawson. His gifts as an artist are transferred to the page as he brings his characters and settings to life. I had a hard time putting the book down, as each page drew me deeper into the story, the lives of the characters and the perils they faced. I highly recommend this book to any reader who enjoys fantasy!
I have been drawn into works of fantasy since I was very young for one reason alone the requirement of this genre is to create a whole world that the reader can get lost in. Shaman's Spark, the first book of the Secrets of the Continent Trilogy by Marcus Lawson is a wonderful example of this.
The story line of this first novel sets up an adventure that the reader is immediately drawn into and ends on a note that leaves them wanting more. The mixing of "our world" and Lawson's Continent allows the reader to get inside the protagonist, Malachi's, head and go along with him as he meets a griffin, centaurs, and even the occasional vampire (and no, they don't sparkle!). As Malachi comes into his powers as a Fioren (a person who can control the elements) and his faith, the reader can't help but root for him and his friends as they take on the Keepers and their leader, Erogant, in a battle for the very souls of those on the Continent.
The strongest draw to the Secrets of the Continent trilogy is the characters that Lawson creates. His characters are not superheroes in the traditional sense. Instead, he gives us a protagonist who questions himself, his abilities, and his faith throughout this first novel. Malachi's friends are easy to relate to, and even the fantastical creatures that he introduces have personalities that make them easy to understand and root for throughout their many obstacles. Unlike many epic heroes, it is very easy to see parts of yourself in these characters.
Overall, this novel is a very enjoyable read for everyone who likes fantasy with elements to keep everyone, from the late elementary/early middle school student to the adult with an imagination entertained, hopeful, and ready for the next book!
The Secrets of the Continent Trilogy is born in this fantastical novel about a teenage boy, Malachi, who is pulled away from his home on Earth and brought to The Continent, a world filled with the creatures of myth gnomes, vampires and griffins. There, he learns of the Keepers, a sect of humans who've taken control of The Continent and force the inhabitants to live in fear of their elemental powers. Malachi is called to lead the people of The Continent in a revolt against The Keepers, and learns that he too has the power to control the elements just as The Keepers can.
I read this book cover to cover and was immediately engulfed in the story from the start. Marcus Lawson created a world with such imagination and wonder that I had a difficult time putting it down. I loved the way he incorporated a spiritual message into the story, bringing life to a fantasy world inclusive of their own brand of Christianity--their faith in Adonai. It is an amazing first novel, and I've read a few new fantasy authors' books before, but this one's going right in my collection next to my Tolkien and Lewis.
After Shaman's Spark, the story continues in Loki's Flame, a strong sequel in a fantastic trilogy.
I highly recommend this story and its sequels to fantasy readers of any age!
Wonderful read. Enjoyed it. Would recommend.
The most interesting book I've read in a long while. The words came together in a way you were able create an image as you were reading. I found it hard to put down. Wonderful storyline! It has a beautiful message! Wish I could rate it higher than five stars!
While fantasy is not my favorite genre, I really enjoyed this novel. The plot drew me in almost immediately and maintained my interest throughout. I enjoyed the way Lawson incorporated Christianity into the storyline - it never seemed forced as in some Christian fiction. I would recommend this novel to anyone!
