A Vision of Sugarplums edition by Jennifer Blake Literature Fiction eBooks

When Meghan Castle finds an abandoned baby in her store on Christmas Eve she had no choice but to take her home. Lucky for her Rick Wallman was still in the store shopping and volunteered to help her with the baby. Off they went to pick up baby supplies then to Meghan's house. When Rick prepared to leave, Meghan freaked and wouldn't let him go.

I really enjoyed this Christmas romance. It has an unusual plot and wonderful characters. Meghan was such a loving mother substitute for Annie, caring for the baby naturally. But Annie was such a sweetie it was hard not to love her. Even though Rick is smart in business he isn't too bright about women. It was hard to like him with the ways he tricked Meghan. The only thing I really didn't like was that Annie's parents left her at Christmas. What parent would leave their first child on their first Christmas? No one.

A Vision of Sugarplums edition by Jennifer Blake Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

A perfect blending of gentle humor and strong emotions, this story pulled me in and kept me turning the pages for more. I'm not a big fan of the "love at first sight" theme. However, Rick had a big secret and waited too long to reveal it, putting his chance of a happy outcome in jeopardy. The kind interference of family members lead to a double grovel, marking our couple as an evenly matched pair.
A Vision of Sugarplums by Jennifer Blake is a romantic novella that goes against Mark Twain's adage that "truth is stranger than fiction," because fiction has to stick to possibilities (make sense). While Blake is very talented when it comes to painting a picture for the reader and she can write a moving love scene, I can't remember when a story has made me so furious. It requires one to stretch the imagination so far that you can't truly enjoy it. I can't go into all the details without giving away the story, but what I can say is if a man treated me the way Rick Wallman did Meghan, there is no way I would want a future with him--no matter his motivation.
This was a well written very short novella. Jennifer Blake is a talented writer and I expected this to be a well done story. But, it is almost like a handsome stalker sets his sights on an unsuspecting woman.

Rick is a very nice man who has charm and intelligence and a great sense of humor. But, he misrepresents himself from the very beginning.

Meghan owns a holiday store and has the hardest time of her year dealing with Christmas because of her past.

There is a baby who is absolutely adorable and the catalyst for the entire story.

I recommend this book to any romance reader who can set aside a sense of realism and simply enjoy the ride toward true love.
Visions of Sugarplums is a delightful story by one of the South's best writers, Jennifer Blake. The characters walk off the pages and immediately engage you. I've read many of Blake's books, and she writes a love scene better than most writers. Unfortunately, many of today's writers feel their love scenes must be crude to be believable. Jennifer Blake is a master in the intimacy department and doesn't need to be vulgar. You will thoroughly enjoy this sweet story of a couple united by a baby.
This was a free book from , my only reason for having it to read. It is short and sweet, something I read in between two intense books to help cleanse the palate, so to speak.

It's Christmas Eve and Meghan Castle finds a nine-month old baby under her Sugar Plum Christmas tree display after closing her store. There was a lingering customer still there, Rick Wallman, who convinces her to take the baby home instead of calling social services. He also volunteers to help her.

You shouldn't expect to find anything realistic about this story and it lives up to that expectation. While it's a sweet tale for the most part, it was hard for me to get around a deception of of this magnitude, perpetrated by Rick. He had many opportunities to redeem himself and chose not to. Of course, there's a happy ending but in the back of my mind I kept thinking Meghan shouldn't ever trust this man.

I would have been okay with this being just a light fare romance if Rick had come clean as soon as he became aware of Meghan's history. That he didn't just turned me off in the end and tainted the "happily ever after."
First off I have to say that the story is well-written; the author is definitely talented. I thought it started out well and was excited for an enjoyable read. But the actions of the hero were repugnant and I don't see how one could ever forgive him!

SPOILER ALERT *******************

It's bad enough that he was so arrogant as to decide he knew what was best for the Meghan but then the way he put it into action. To me to deliberately and deceptively impregnate a woman (who you know doesn't want children) is tantamount to rape. Shame on Rick and shame on Meghan for forgiving him and welcoming him back into her life.
